What I picked for dinner tonight.

Going to lightly stir-fry the garden veggies tonight, Kale, Sugar Snap Peas, Onions, Turnip and Radish greens. Going to add Garlic, Frozen Red and Green Bell Peppers, Chicken, with Brown Rice Pasta, salt, pepper, parm chz. Yum!~

Green beans are around the corner. Looking forward to that!

I also picked about 6 strawberries and some fresh Peas for my daughter and her friend to snack on. The strawberries are slowing up. Tomorrow night will make a nice salad from the garden.

Update: The soup was very good. I scooped it into a bowl, added just a little salt, pepper, some sharp white cheddar cheese shredded, a little goat cheese and then topped it with the radish slices. Very good!

What I picked today, Monday 24 May

More radishes today. Small onions, pea pods and greens to saute for dinner tonight. Not sure what I'll do with the radishes, may have to pick some lettuce to make a salad. I also snacked on 4 strawberries. The only thing I will be picking over the next couple days will be strawberries, chives, parsley, maybe one more small salad for the family (of 5).

What I picked tonight, Sunday Night, 23 May 2010

I made a salad with different types of lettuce, couple radishes, one small bell pepper and pea pods. Sauted some greens (kale and collard) to go with the chicken I made tonight, and for dessert had sliced strawberries over ice cream. Was good :)

What I picked tonight

I made a nice salad tonight, the kids snacked on the strawberries, and I gave the birds some radish leaves to eat (our pet birds, Oliver and Bingo). This is the second bowl of strawberries I have picked. I should have another bowl full in about 5-6 days. The flowers-, purple flowers are from the chive plant. Yellow flowers are from one of the lettuce plants that grew out. I have been snacking on the peas, so only picked six tonight for the salad.

My Brother's chicken coop...cute!

My brother lives outside Vegas. He made this chicken coop, SO cute!!! This is his first year having chickens. They delivered them in April. 30 Chicks.

I hit the Garage Sales today. Fun Fun!

I had fun this morning driving from Garage Sale to Garage Sale. I was looking for a couple large old pots for tomato plants I started from seed that I'd like to give to a couple neighbors. No luck finding pots today, but I did see two nice gardens. they said I could take pics :)

I didn't catch this gardeners name, but the ladies at the garage sale said she is a fantastic gardener and can grow anything. I took these pictures today at a local farm. I thought it was cute how they decorate their garden boxes.

4/15/2010. What I did today. I'm beat!!!!

I set up the two new boxes, filled one...will finish tomorrow. Also put down weed cloth.

.....not done and not pretty yet, but it will be. Busted my butt on this today. Hope to finish leveling and filling the other box tomorrow. The weed cloth area will have flowers, melons and pumpkins. That's the plan anyway ;)

How the garden looks today 4/15/2010, late afternoon. This first box is mostly strawberries, plus a couple squares of radishes in the empty squares.

My plants 4/14/2010

My last frost date is April 21st. I am fixing up a couple more garden boxes to plant my tomotoes in by May 1st-ish. Will post more photos soon. My seeds have done very well this year.

My lettuce plants in two pots on the deck, I've made a couple salads from these already. Going to buy a few more pots. I like having the lettuce close by.

My Tomato Plants

I thinned out my seeds yesterday. Each pot had about three tomato plants each. You cut away the weakest and keep the strongest one. I'm so proud of my seeds. I totally failed at this last year. Soon I will transplant them into another jiffy pot with regular soil. (regular soil mix which is Equal parts of compost/peat moss/and Vermeculite or Perlite.

March 9th 2010

March 9th.

Had fun planting seeds directly in the boxes this morning. Early spring plants. Regular Peas, Sugar Snap Peas, Onions, Several types of lettuce, Turnips, Carrots, and Swiss Chard.

Next planting will be about March 15th when I try Beets from seed. My beets didn't work out last year. After that next planting will be about April 1st. I will also be picking up some lettuce already started from the local nursery and maybe broccoli. fun fun!

If you do a search for your area, "planting dates (and the area you live)" then you can get some good ideas when to plant in your area for seed and for the transplants that you started indoors.

Pots and Seeds, March 8th 2010

Above photo: I did these on Saturday. Now sitting on top of the frig. No sprouts yet. Packages said will be 3-10 days. After they sprout I'll put them by the window. 12 Tomoto plants, lettuce, parsley, jalapeno, basil, oregano, and some spreading petunias. I didn't do well with the stupid little peat pods last year. Using these larger jiffy pots this year. -hoping I do better this year growing my own and buy less.

March 1st

It's March 1st 2010 and I'm thinking about starting my second year of gardening. The first thing I'm going to plant this year will be lettuce seeds in a planter box and place next to the window. I may do this tomorrow if I have time, but by the end of the week for sure. Will take pics :)

Update:

My indoor seeds are doing OK, but I am going to plant them in a different way next year. I went ahead and bought some plants at Lowes and Home Depot. I purchased Brocolli, Cabbage, Strawberries, onions. and lettuce. I also planted seeds directly into the boxes, they haven't come up yet...but they should. Those are Turnips, Spinach, Sugar Snap Peas. This week going to plant radishes, beets, more lettuce.

(Update on this update..haha. Turnip sprouts have arrived! Woohoo!)- March 30th
